Questions men usually have
before reaching out

Honest answers to the things most men want to know before they book. If your question isn't here, just ask.

Booking & getting started

We talk briefly about what's going on and what you're looking for. I'll share a bit about how I work and you can ask any questions you have. At the end we figure out together if it makes sense to move forward. No pressure, no commitment.
That's most of the men I work with. You don't need to know how to "do therapy" or have the right words ready. We start where you are. The first session is just a conversation — I'll ask questions and we'll go from there at your pace.
The easiest way is online through Jane App at emanueltherapy.janeapp.com — you can see real-time availability and book in a few clicks. You can also call (365) 305-0165 or use the contact form. Messages are answered within 24 hours.
Free consultations are usually available within a few days. First full sessions depend on current availability — check Jane App for the most up-to-date times. If you've reached out by email or phone, you'll hear back within 24 hours.

Fees & insurance

Individual sessions are $225. The initial 20-minute consultation is free. Sliding scale fees are considered on a case-by-case basis — if cost is a concern, reach out and we can talk about it before you commit to anything.
JJ does not offer direct billing to insurance companies. However, after each session you'll receive a detailed receipt by email that includes JJ's full name, CRPO licence number (#10110), designation as Registered Psychotherapist, and practice address. You can submit this receipt directly to your insurer for reimbursement. Many Canadian extended health benefit plans cover Registered Psychotherapists — look for "RP" or "psychotherapy" in your plan documents. Always check with your provider before starting to confirm your coverage.
Sliding scale fees are available on a case-by-case basis. Reach out directly — cost shouldn't be the reason someone doesn't get support. We can have a conversation about what's workable before anything is committed to.
Payment is processed through Jane App after each session. A detailed receipt is emailed to you automatically, which you can use for insurance reimbursement.

Sessions & format

Virtual sessions use a secure, PHIPA-compliant video platform. You don't need to download anything — just a link sent to your email before the session. You need a private space and a decent internet connection. Most men find virtual sessions just as effective as in-person.
In-person sessions are at 1118 Centre St #205, Thornhill, Ontario (L4J 7R9). Easily accessible from Vaughan, Richmond Hill, North York, and the broader GTA.
Individual sessions are 50 minutes. Most people start weekly or biweekly — we'll figure out a schedule that works for your life and goals. There's no set minimum number of sessions.
Yes. Confidentiality is fundamental to how therapy works. What you share stays between us, with narrow legal exceptions: imminent risk of serious harm to yourself or someone else, or situations involving the protection of a child. These are explained clearly at the start of our work together.
Absolutely not. Most of the men I work with come in before things get to a crisis point — they're tired, stretched thin, or just know something needs to change. You don't have to be falling apart to deserve support.
Yes. JJ works with couples in addition to individual men's therapy. If you're interested in couples work, mention it when you reach out and we can talk about whether it's a good fit.
